Our vintage crazy quilt
October 9, 2006

We have a lovely vintage crazy quilt, from my husband's side of the family, probably from Kansas. It is over 60 years old, I think. Falling apart in many places, but still beautiful. It is sewn mostly out of velvets- whoever made it used plain and striped velvets. There is some embroidery on it, and some painted work!
I sent some photos of it to one of my favorite bloggers, Sharon, who I think is one of the world's most talented crazy quilters! If you haven't seen her 100 details for 100 days, please check it out- it is amazing! Her site has made me want to sit down and try some of this crazy quilting!

What a wonderful treasure.

This is a interesting example of a crazy quilt - I am wondering if some of the embroidered pieces were one first then incorporated inot the quilt - there is something in thier off cener placement in the patches that made me ask myself.
