A few little quilts
November 2, 2006

I love to make small quilts by hand. Hope this will be an encouragement to someone who might want to get started sewing a quilt and think you have to do a big, fancy patchwork one. It is great to do those, and my hat is off to you if you can! But little ones for babies and friends are nice to make, go quickly, and if you make them by hand, you can take them in the car, sit in the living room in the evening in a cozy chair, and pick it up at a free moment. I love to do hand applique, and mine are not fancy- no, no no they are very, very simple....hand appliqued on top, batting in between, nice fabric on the back, some hand quilting to hold the layers together, sewing the sides up, and a homemade tag on the back.

I make a quilt for each of our grandchildren and they always cherish it from a young age. I made this one

(That is the tag I made on the back)
for a little friend of ours, it was just a surprise gift and she was delighted.
Here is one I made for Britta, when she became our new daughter-in-law-

And here is the one I made for Samantha Jane, our oldest granddaughter-

They really are not fancy, almost embarrassingly simple, but I hope an encouragement for someone that they can try and do these, too, and someone will love them.
